Class
A CI gate (public-scrub / diff-hygiene / lint-style) fails on a PR whose only offending diff content is agent/runtime-created scratch that a blanket git add -A swept in (e.g. leftover crash directories from test TemporaryDirectories, rerun-shim scratch). The gate is right; the commit habit is wrong.
Proposed rubric line (references/bugbot-triage.md)
Gate-check failures whose diff is only accidentally-committed scratch/test artifacts: dismiss as false signal; fix by deleting the scratch and gitignoring + scrub-listing the pattern — never by weakening the gate.
Evidence (production, private repo, reproducible class)
- PR run: gates 4/8 shards fail with
SCRUB FAILED — non-guard private-string hits in copied files: tests/.routing-test-*/run/logs/child.*.prompt.md; unit tests inside the shards pass (TOTAL 43 FAIL 0). - Root cause: crashed temp-dir cleanup left the scratch on disk;
git add -Acommitted it. - Resolution: removal commit +
gitignore/SCRUB_LISTpairing for both scratch patterns (.routing-test-*/,.wf-rerun-*/); all shards green on first fresh build, zero retrigger budget spent. - Companion hygiene PR on our side: https://github.com/jacobhausler/hermes-workflows/pull/524
