Start by opening the thread view shown in the issue and tracing how replies and references are counted for a DM note. Compare the count update path with the thread view, which the report says is correct. Done when the reply and reference counts update to reflect the existing thread; the issue does not name a file or test to start from.

here in this image the what is jb had a reply of jb grocery store but the reply count and ref count are not updating the thread view is correct
