Start by tracing WAL loading and the calls to PruneCompetingChains during finalization; the issue does not name files or tests. Find the finalization with the highest sequence and assess whether pruning can happen once after all WAL records are loaded. Done means pruning runs once at that point and existing WAL recovery behavior is preserved.
