Observed on the following W5500 configs:
Adafruit CircuitPython 11.0.0-alpha.1 on 2026-09-24; Adafruit QT Py ESP32-S3 4MB Flash 2MB PSRAM with ESP32S3
(wired via SPI to WIZ850io)
Adafruit CircuitPython 11.0.0-alpha.1 on 2026-09-24; FeatherS3 with ESP32S3 (N16R8)
(wired via SPI to W5500-EVB-Pico2)
Adafruit CircuitPython 11.0.0-alpha.1 on 2026-09-24; Seeed Xiao ESP32-S3 Sense with ESP32S3 (N8R8)
(XIAO W5500 Ethernet Adapter with built-in W5500)
Adafruit CircuitPython 11.0.0-alpha.1 on 2026-09-24; Waveshare ESP32-S3-ETH with ESP32S3 (N16R8)

With debug=True, the following is typical:
socket_available called on socket 1, protocol 33
Bytes avail. on sock: 2048

safemode.py reports: supervisor.SafeModeReason.HARD_FAULT.

I'll keep trying to produce a reasonable example, but when I've tried so far I don't get the hard faults. Could be due to some combination of data or network conditions I can't replicate. It's possible there's intermittent network disruption that affects the socket.
This issue predates CP 11, but I didn't spend time on it in the past.
