Start by tracing how the edge-list constructor consumes the layout argument and how network and node objects are represented. Define the scope for arbitrary coordinates in other constructors and for updating an existing network, including the proposed Network layout and Node updateProperty methods; done should include support for both requested workflows.

right now we can take a data table representing an edge list and a layout arg and make a network w the specified layout. some things we would also like to be able to do:
- handle custom layouts, by extending the support for layouts to constructors other than the edge list based ones. these should take arbitrary coords.
- update the layout after the network has already been created. that might mean introducing a new Network method like
layoutand a new Node method likeupdateProperty
