Hi OpenScreen team,
Could you please add HEVC (H.265) as an export codec option alongside the current H.264?
Describe the solution you'd like
Why this would be useful
- Significantly smaller file sizes at the same (or better) visual quality compared to H.264
- Especially helpful for longer recordings, 4K/high-fps exports, and sharing
- Modern hardware encoders (NVENC, AMF, Quick Sync, VideoToolbox) already support HEVC efficiently
Suggested implementation
- Add “HEVC / H.265” as a selectable codec in the export dialog (next to H.264)
- Prefer hardware encoding when available, with software fallback
- Keep H.264 as the default for maximum compatibility
This would be a great addition for users who want better compression without sacrificing quality.
