Mô tả

Motivation

The whiteboard and example drawing currently support freehand drawing but do not provide a tool for entering text.
During an interview, candidates may need to label diagram nodes, annotate arrows, or write short notes such as variable names and time complexity. Writing these labels freehand with a mouse can be slow and difficult to read.

Proposed feature

Add a Text tool to both the whiteboard interview and the example drawing panel so candidates can place typed labels alongside their drawings.

Expected user flow

  1. The candidate selects the Text tool in the drawing toolbar.
  2. The candidate clicks or taps the desired location on the canvas.
  3. A text input appears and receives keyboard focus.
  4. The candidate types a label, optionally using multiple lines.
  5. The candidate confirms the input to place the text on the canvas, or cancels without changing the drawing.
  6. The text appears in the board image shared with the interviewer and in the session replay.

For example, a candidate drawing a linked list could label nodes head and tail, then add O(n) time beside the diagram.

Initial scope

  • Support text entry in both drawing surfaces.
  • Support multiline text and the selected drawing color.
  • Include text additions in the existing Undo history.
  • Support Redo where it is already available.
  • Make Clear remove both text and freehand strokes, with Undo restoring them.
  • Include text in exported board images and recording/replay operations.

Moving, resizing, and editing existing text objects could be considered as follow-up improvements.

Acceptance criteria

  • A candidate can add a typed label to either drawing surface.
  • Cancelling text entry leaves the canvas and its history unchanged.
  • Text and freehand strokes work together correctly with Undo and Clear.
  • The interviewer receives a board image containing the text.
  • Replaying the recorded operations reproduces the text and subsequent edits.
  • Existing pen and eraser interactions continue to work.
