Start with the upsun:tunnel:open, var:expose-from-tunnel, and var:export command entry points, then trace how Upsun project information is located when run from the backend subdirectory. Reproduce using the issue’s multi-app steps and compare with the single-app case. Done means the tunnel opens and var:export --multiline --debug exports the tunnel variables without the project-information error.

When hosting a single Symfony app on Upsun and opening a new ssh tunnel, envVar are exposed :

But, when hosting a multiple app on Upsun, with .upsun folder at the root, one backend folder (Symfony) and one frontend sub-folder (Next.js), i get this result:

So, for multi-app, it's not asking if we want to to open a ssh tunnel (as for decouple-train-single) and there is an error ERROR: unable to get Upsun project information in the var:export command line.

cd backend (if multi-app)
symfony upsun:tunnel:open
symfony var:expose-from-tunnel
symfony var:export --multiline --debug
