Hello SoundCloud team,

I'm an independent developer, and I'm planning to build a platform that helps independent artists grow their audience through real listeners. Before I build anything, I'd like to check whether it would be allowed under the API Terms of Use, and if so, how to do it properly.

The idea:

  • Artists sign in with the official "Connect with SoundCloud" login.
  • They share their tracks with a community of other artists, who listen and leave feedback.
  • Artists can choose to repost, like or follow tracks they genuinely enjoy. Every action would be started by the user themselves, never automated.
  • To keep things fair, artists would earn credits by listening to and reviewing other people's music, and spend those credits to put their own tracks in front of the community.
  • I'd also like to offer optional paid plans or credit packs to cover running costs.

Similar platforms already exist. RepostExchange (repostexchange.com) is your official community promotion partner and uses a credit system with paid plans. Bryder Network Promotion Platform (promotion.brydernetwork.com) also offers points for SoundCloud actions such as reposts, likes and follows, uses the official SoundCloud login, and sells paid promotion plans that include reposts. The owner also sells SoundCloud promotion on Fiverr . I couldn't find any information on whether Bryder Network has an agreement with SoundCloud, so I'm not sure which of these models is open to new developers.

I understand the API Terms restrict incentivised engagement and paid promotion, so I'd like your guidance on:

  1. Which parts of my idea are allowed under the standard API Terms, and which aren't?
  2. If a credit system or paid plans aren't allowed for standard API users, is there a partner program or approval process I could apply for, as RepostExchange/Bryder Network Promotion Platform did?
  3. What would I need to change to make sure the platform is fully compliant?
