Of the 45 problems, almost none use a stack, tree or backtracking. These are some of the most common interview topics and a natural fit for short battles.

Ideas that fit the gaming theme

  • Stack: matching combo inputs, undo history in a level editor, next stronger opponent in a queue.
  • Trees: a tournament bracket or guild hierarchy given as a parent array (integer[]), asking for depth, subtree totals or lowest common ancestor.
  • Backtracking: every squad of size k under a cost cap, or filling a small puzzle grid.

Trees must arrive as one of the supported input types (for example a parent array or an edge list as [integer, integer][]), since drivers do not build node objects.

How to add one

Follow backend/arena/docs/problems.md: one JSON file in backend/arena/problems/ and independent JavaScript and Python references in backend/arena/solutions/.

Definition of done

  • cd backend && npm run validate:problems passes.
  • Tags include the topic (stack, trees or backtracking) so it shows up in filters.
  • Easy or medium difficulty is welcome; this is a good first problem to write.
