Every Heroku build prints this warning twice:

Your app has a bin/bundle binstub that may cause bundler to malfunction. We recommend you remove it.
When bin/bundle is present, bundle clean may remove the installed version of bundler and then your app falls back to the default bundler version that ships with Ruby, which can be a different major version than expected.

bin/bundle is an old Bundler-generated binstub. Nothing in the repo calls it: git grep -n 'bin/bundle' only finds the file itself and an unrelated comment about bin/bundler-audit. Our scripts, the Dockerfile and CI all run plain bundle.

Steps

  • git rm bin/bundle
  • Run git grep -n 'bin/bundle' and check that nothing still uses it (bin/bundler-audit is a different file, so leave it).
  • Locally, check that bin/setup, bin/update and bin/dev still start normally.

Acceptance

  • Every CI check is green.
  • After the next deploy, the Heroku build log no longer shows the bin/bundle warning. A maintainer will check this.

Related: #7324 (Ruby 4.0.9), which touches the same deploy setup. Either can go first.
