Start by tracing the rate limit check and Reddit response parsing in the client code, using the reported /r/reddit/hot.json request and 403 response as entry points. Reproduce the failure against a local instance and inspect how the response is handled. Done means the rate limit check handles the reported response correctly and the error no longer disrupts normal use.

Hello.
I just tried to use my local instance to check the news on Reddit and I found this error:
