Trace how selected competencies are represented, then investigate whether Superset allows editing values in an applied cross-filter. Done means both filter entry paths include related parent and child competencies up to six levels, while preserving user deselections; the issue names no files or tests.

User Story

As an administrator or course team member, when I apply a competency filter to the competency dashboard, I want the dashboard to automatically filter on related competencies (parent and child competencies), so that I can see relevant related information about competencies and their sub-competencies at once.

Acceptance Criteria

Scenario: Competency filter automatically applied parent and child competencies to dashboard by default
Given I am an administrator or course team member with access to the competency dashboard
When I apply the competency filter from the filters panel for a selected competency
Then I see that all parent and sub-competencies related to the selected competency(ies) are selected before I apply the filter
And when I deselect any of the selected parent or sub-competencies and I apply the filter
Then I see that my edits to the selected filters are applied.

And when I apply a cross-filter by selecting a specific competency in a chart or table in the dashboard
Then I see that all parent and sub-competencies related to the selected competency(ies) are selected before I apply the filter
And when I deselect any of the selected parent or sub-competencies and I apply the filter
Then I see that my edits to the selected filters are applied (See Notes)

Notes
  1. Open edX will support 6 levels of parent/child competencies
  2. I am not certain that you are able to edit the filtered values in an applied cross filter in Superset - this might need some investigation.
