Start with the release-candidate roadmap section in ROADMAP.md and the contribution steps in CONTRIBUTING.md. This is a maintainer-led release milestone: publish the package under the next npm tag, monitor feedback for at least two weeks, and fix reported issues. It is done after two weeks pass without a bug requiring a public interface change and the listed tests, documentation, CI, and roadmap checks are complete.

- Tests cover the change, and coverage stays at or above 90% of lines
- The README describes the change, and the header comment of each touched
lib/file is up to date - CI passes on Windows, macOS and Linux with Node 22, 24 and 26
- The roadmap item is ticked
The milestone is done when: Two weeks pass without new bugs that would require changing the public interface.
