Start by reproducing the setup with a port in the workspace settings and the server entry in .vscode/mcp.json, using separate VS Code windows. Trace how the workspace port is read and passed to the MCP server. Done means each workspace can use its configured port and the server starts without a missing-port error.

I tried to separate, because I'm having endless problems with shared instances of debugmcp, per workspace having a port setup in the workspace file which appears to be supported.
But setting that in the workspace settings and then adding the server to that port in the mcp.json in the .vscode folder results in it failing to run saying it can't find the port.
Is there any way to get this working so that every window uses it's own port or at least let me set the port per workspace and get this clean?
(or better, use embedded vs code tooling directly and get rid of the server stuff entirely)
