Start by locating the compiler entry point that currently emits JavaScript and trace how generated arguments and return values are represented. The issue names no files or tests; completion would require a TypeScript-output option with typed arguments and a return type, plus a way to validate the stated runtime-safety use case.

Currently the compiler always emits regular JavaScript. It would be nice, if the compiler had an option to produce TypeScript, with typed arguments and the return type. This could then be leveraged in the runtime, in order to make sure that the usage is safe, ie. the translation key exists and that the required arguments are supplied.
