The payload does not name the packaging file, so start by finding where the async dependencies added in version 36.0.0 are declared in the package metadata. Move them into an optional async extra so that pip install kubernetes[async] pulls them in and a plain install does not. Done means the base install omits those packages and the extra installs them. Confirm the maintainers want this before starting, since the issue has no comments yet.

What is the feature and why do you need it:
Would it be possible to have the async dependency additions made in version 36.0.0 installed as an extra. Users who don't use/require the async functionality are still required to install all the extra dependencies increasing space usage in containers and potential vulnerabilities.

Use pip install kubernetes[async] if you need the async capabilities.
