Start with #2144 and the request handlers for /api/tree/<tree_name>// and /api/hardware/<hardware_id>/. Check how existing endpoint counts are recorded, then trace the client value for dashboard and kci-dev requests. Done means the three listed request cases increment the specified counters with the expected labels and tests verify their IDs and clients.

Problem

Endpoint counts show treeDetailsView and hardwareDetails, not which tree or which board. Don asked which trees and which boards the community actually opens. kci-dev hits a fixed list of boards on a schedule, so that traffic has to stay separable from a person opening a page.

Proposal

Depends on #2144 for client. Record two counters. Take the ids from the request.

  • dashboard_tree_requests_by_client_total, labels tree_id and client. tree_id is {origin}:{tree_name}/{branch}, from the path /api/tree/<tree_name>/<branch>/… and the origin query parameter.
  • dashboard_hardware_requests_by_client_total, labels hardware_id and client. The hardware id on /api/hardware/<hardware_id>/….

The board can show every client, or only client="dashboard".

Tests

  • Chrome on /api/tree/mainline/master?origin=maestro increments dashboard_tree_requests_by_client_total for tree_id="maestro:mainline/master" and client="dashboard".
  • Chrome on /api/hardware/<hardware_id>/ increments dashboard_hardware_requests_by_client_total for that id and client="dashboard".
  • kci-dev/<version> on those URLs increments the same counters with client="kci-dev".
