Start at the /chat path and reproduce the indefinite spinner on Windows 10 with app version 1.1.22. Compare cases where compaction is occurring with cases waiting for a child to report back, including after the app goes idle or is forced to reannounce. Done means the thread leaves the spinning state and reports its current status without requiring a full shutdown.

It seems like I get caught a lot in spinning for a very long time. The two most likely things are when compaction is happening (maybe it finishes and isn't telling the thread correctly) and when waiting for a child to report back. Even after it goes idle and when I force it to reannounce, it still just spinds and I have to shut it all down.
