In the GitHub Copilot desktop app, I would like every new session created within a project to provide an optional right-side file explorer.

Currently, the right-side panel appears to be available mainly after opening a file or a diff. When starting a new session, there is no convenient way to browse the project’s files and inspect the code context before sending a prompt.

Please consider adding a toggleable project file explorer that is available in every project session. Ideally, it would:

  • Show the file tree of the current project/worktree

  • Allow users to open and preview files

  • Support file search

  • Remember the panel’s visibility and width across sessions

  • Remain independent from the diff or terminal panels

This would make it much easier to understand the project structure, review related files, and provide better context when starting a new session.
