Tracking issue for the work that builds on the sentry-cli + sentry-mcp merge into getsentry/toolkit. The goal is a CLI-first install path where the CLI and the stdio MCP server share auth and constraints, and the agent plugin uses them. Items are not ordered and still need to be fleshed out into their own issues.

Tasks

  • Complete the repository merge — #1156 (Linear: MCP-1002)
  • Expose a sentry mcp shortcut that launches the stdio MCP server
  • Share the CLI's authentication with the stdio MCP server
  • Update the agent plugin to use the CLI + stdio MCP behaviors
  • Replicate the remote MCP server's constraints so the CLI and stdio MCP can be constraint-bound
  • Make agent installation possible through the CLI, so installation moves CLI-first with the agent coming with it
  • Keep a clear path for the agent plugin to work well with the remote MCP server, since hosts like claude.ai and other HTTP-only clients likely can't use the package the same way
  • Audit and overhaul the agent skills: CLI-focused skills may now be confusing, so review each existing skill for whether it is still useful, then update the ones that remain to cover both MCP and CLI
