The issue explains the sign error but names no source file or test font, and PR #422 is already open against it, so start by reading that PR and the code that builds vertical phantom points. Check the bottom phantom point against top minus advance height, including the gvar/vmtx-without-VVAR path. Done looks like a corrected sign plus a regression test, or a documented reason why no suitable test font could be added; the missing reproduction is the main newcomer blocker.

  • fontkit puts the bottom phantom point at the top one plus the advance height, while the spec and HarfBuzz put it at the top minus the advance
  • In a variable font with gvar and vmtx but no VVAR, a gvar delta on the bottom phantom point then changes the vertical advance in the wrong direction
  • I haven't found a test font with this combination yet, so this has no reproduction file
