Feature summary
Document running a Flutter iOS app directly on an Apple silicon Mac with the Mac Designed for iPad device. The code PR adds normal device discovery and flutter run / IDE launch support to the existing attach-only target.
The implementation is currently in a draft PR, not a released Flutter SDK. Coordinate publication with the code landing and record the first supported Flutter version once known.

From the Flutter application directory, using an SDK that includes the feature:
flutter devices
flutter run -d mac-designed-for-ipad
flutter run -d mac-designed-for-ipad --profile
flutter run -d mac-designed-for-ipad --release
For IDEs, select Mac Designed for iPad as the device and launch the iOS application. Explain how this differs from selecting the native macOS desktop target (macos).
Additional context or resources
The documentation should cover:
- Requirements: an Apple silicon Mac; an existing Flutter iOS app whose Xcode configuration and dependencies support the Designed for iPad destination; a compatible Xcode installation with iOS development tooling and the app's normal code-signing setup. Follow Flutter's supported Xcode requirements rather than treating the validation version as a minimum.
- Xcode launch and permissions: Flutter builds the iOS app and uses Xcode automation with a temporary launcher workspace. Explain the macOS permission to control Xcode and relevant troubleshooting for local VM service discovery.
- Development workflow: Debug breakpoints, hot reload, hot restart, and Stop; Profile and Release launch support. Debug attaches LLDB; Profile and Release normally launch without it.
- Limits of this change: standalone installation/uninstallation, standalone logs, screenshots, and
flutter driveare unsupported. Standalone build/export commands are outside this feature. The iOS application's normal platform and plugin limitations still apply. - Availability: identify the first Flutter release containing the feature after landing. Until then, retain guidance appropriate to released SDKs.
The code PR was validated on an M4 Mac with macOS 27.0.1 and Xcode 27.1; these are validation versions, not a claimed minimum support matrix.
