Start by locating those entry points and tracing how personal git sources are installed and refreshed; compare that flow with team marketplace refresh. Done means personal git plugins fetch the latest commit through Update or marketplace update, with startup or focus refresh addressed and interim documentation added.

For a personal account, every way to install a plugin from git produces a snapshot that never updates.

  • /add-plugin <github-url> - pinned to the install-time commit, Update/Reinstall reinstall the same snapshot, acknowledged with no ETA: forum, forum
  • cursor-agent plugin marketplace update - reports success, "0 plugins indexed", nothing changes: forum
  • Import from GitHub in Customize - never indexed: #452
  • Local folder - symlinks rejected: #35

Only team marketplaces (Teams/Enterprise + GitHub App) auto-refresh. Individuals are left with cron + rsync into ~/.cursor/plugins/local and Reload Window.

Expected - parity with Claude Code (claude plugin marketplace add owner/repo + autoUpdate) and Codex (codex plugin marketplace add / upgrade). The same repo ships .claude-plugin, .codex-plugin and .cursor-plugin manifests - Cursor is the only one where it can't stay current.

Ask

  1. Make Update / marketplace update fetch the latest commit for git sources.
  2. Refresh personal git marketplaces on startup/focus, like team ones.
  3. Until then, say so in the docs.
