Start with packages/widget/src/i18n.ts and the existing core locale files under packages/core/src/i18n/; then copy the test pattern from packages/core/tests/i18n/locales.test.ts. Pick one target language, add its typed locale file and registration, and check the widget keys in website/src/content/docs/widget/i18n.mdx. Done means the locale has all keys in native script, the widget i18n tests cover registered locales and fallback, and a changeset is included.

The docs say the widget ships 8 built-in locales, but packages/widget/src/i18n.ts only registers English, so any other locale silently falls back to English. Let's add the missing languages. This is a great fit for native speakers. Please comment with the language you're taking and open one PR per language.

Where to look

  • packages/widget/src/i18n.ts (WidgetLocaleStrings, locales)
  • packages/core/src/i18n/*.ts. Use these as a starting point only: the es/fr/de files drop accents and the Hindi file is romanized.
  • packages/core/tests/i18n/locales.test.ts (test pattern to copy)
  • website/src/content/docs/widget/i18n.mdx

Acceptance criteria

  • The first PR sets up the structure: one file per language in packages/widget/src/locales/, typed as WidgetLocaleStrings and registered in i18n.ts, plus its own language
  • Target languages: es, fr, de, hi, ja, zh, ar
  • All keys translated, with correct accents and native script (Devanagari for Hindi)
  • New packages/widget/tests/i18n.test.ts: every registered locale has a non-empty value for every key, and an unknown code falls back to English
  • The "Locale Strings" section of widget/i18n.mdx lists the real widget keys
  • Changeset for @chatcops/widget
  • Out of scope: right-to-left layout for Arabic (separate follow-up)
