The issue names no source files, so start by reproducing it: connect the plugin to a remote SFTP server in Docker and time how long opening a small text file takes, then time the plugin settings load separately. Look for where the file-open request waits on the connection and where it drops, and compare with the timings the reporter sees. Done means a measured cause for the slow open and the lost connection, with a fix that brings the open time down and keeps the session alive.

What happened?
The file manager became extremely slow in recent versions. It was fast.
It needs more than 10 seconds to open a 7.9 KB text file from remote server.
I tried Termius, it is very fast and can open file immediately.
The plugin settings are very slow to load too:
