Start by reading Gradle’s isolated projects guide and the progress in issue #1661. The issue identifies detectVersion() in dfbuild.base, the :samples project’s jar task dependencies, and blockers in the caupain and publishing plugins. Map which changes or plugin updates remain, then consider the work done when isolated projects can be enabled across the build without accessing another project’s mutable state.

will improve the performance of the build of the DataFrame project. However, this requires some plugins to be updated. Most importantly, after enabling this feature we will not be able to access the mutable state of another project anymore. Everything needs to be done via convention plugins. We're a long way already in #1661, but we're still blocked by, for instance:
