Problem

SparseMatrixColorings v0.4.29 fails PkgEval on Julia 1.15.0-DEV. PkgEval labels it precompile, but there are two issues:

1. The real test errors: MatrixDepot downloads. There are 35 errored tests, all in test/suitesparse.jl (lines 40, 106 and 136). MatrixDepot can't find the SuiteSparse matrices in the PkgEval sandbox:

Some tests did not pass: 63265 passed, 0 failed, 35 errored, 2 broken.

2. The precompile label: GPU test deps. CUDA/AMDGPU in the test environment pull in GPUCompiler, which fails to precompile on Julia 1.15 (LLVM 23) because LLVM.jl has no LLVMExtra_jll build yet (UndefVarError: libLLVMExtra not defined in LLVM.API). This is upstream and harmless as long as the GPU tests are skipped, but it makes PkgEval report the wrong failure reason.

Suggested fixes

  1. Make the SuiteSparse tests robust to unavailable data. For example, wrap matrixdepot(...) in try ... catch e; e isa MatrixDepot.DataError || rethrow(); @test_skip ...; continue; end, or skip suitesparse.jl when the download fails (or under PkgEval, get(ENV, "PKGEVAL", "false") == "true").
  2. Optionally, only add CUDA/AMDGPU to the test environment in the GPU CI jobs (for example, a separate test/gpu project activated on demand) so that CPU-only runs don't depend on LLVM.jl.
