Start with the SOAP engine in packages/backend/src/connectors/engines/, since the issue names it as the model for turning a WSDL into tools. The new connector needs to read a .proto file or server reflection, map each unary method to a tool, and handle TLS client certificates and per-call metadata headers. Done means a unary gRPC service imports as tools, auth works, and the UI states that streaming methods are not supported. The issue leaves open whether to support both import paths in the first version, so confirm that with maintainers first.

REST, SOAP/WSDL, GraphQL, SQL/NoSQL and MCP-to-MCP are supported. gRPC is the obvious gap, and internal services are increasingly gRPC-only.

Scope

  • New connector type alongside the existing five.
  • Import from a .proto file or from server reflection, mapping each method to a tool the same way WSDL operations are mapped.
  • Auth: TLS client certificates and per-call metadata headers.
  • Streaming methods are out of scope for a first version — unary only, and say so in the UI.
