Following #440, which introduces thorough metadata handling, an update to an attributes metadata will be reflected with an update to the CA records metadata. However, if this update is not valid (such as the shape of an array), this is still attempted and will fail.
After this failure, the attribute is left with new metadata that does not reflect the actual records metadata.
A possible solution for this would be to create a validator function on the CA transport and add a _update_meta_validators list to Attribute. Transports can then register their function to this list via an add_update_meta_validator method, which allows Attribute.update_meta to reject updates before they go through.
