What happens now

The transcription tool keeps small sections of recognized speech with their start and end times. It displays those times on the page, but only offers a plain-text download.

A timestamped download would help people review the transcript alongside a recording.

Suggested change

Add a "Download subtitles (.vtt)" button using WebVTT, a text format for timed subtitles. Start with this one format to keep the task small.

Build the file from the transcript sections already available. Do not run transcription again, add a model, or send the recording anywhere.

Keep the existing text download. If a section has missing or unusable times, handle it clearly instead of writing invalid timestamps or guessing a time.

Where to start

See mountTranscribeSkill in index.html. The lastTranscript.segments list contains the text, start time, and end time for each section. See its existing download button for the filename and download pattern.

Use a separate time-formatting helper for subtitle files, because the on-screen time display uses a different format.

How to check the change

  • A small made-up transcript produces a valid WebVTT file.
  • Test times across minute and hour boundaries, including fractions of a second.
  • Quotes, line breaks, and non-English characters remain readable.
  • Missing or invalid times do not produce a broken download.
  • The original text download still works.
  • Document the new download in the Field Kit guide.
