Research direction

Start by reading the workspace Ruff configuration and checking how its selected rules are defined. Add W605 to the configured rules, then run Ruff to confirm it reports invalid escape sequences across the workspace; done when the lint configuration covers every package as proposed.

Description

enhancement P5 pkg: workspace

Round 2 of the test-reports fixes (#2156) found a \ in a non-raw docstring: a SyntaxWarning: invalid escape sequence on a cold compile, and an IMPORT failure of the extension under python -W error. ruff's selected rules do not include W605 (invalid escape sequence), so nothing in prek/CI catches the class; sphinx-test-reports and ub-test-reports now carry a test that compiles every module (and test) under warnings.simplefilter("error") as a fence for themselves only.

Proposal: add W605 to the workspace ruff configuration so every package is covered at lint time (the compile fences can then go, or stay as belt-and-braces).
