Description

Overview

Hi, I'd like to work on #1599. I saw #1605 and the existing file-manager branch. Is this still available, and would building on that work be useful?

Technical Approach

I'd start from current main, use Unraid's existing cookie/CSRF validation and permissions, and adapt the earlier branch's sidecar, UI and packaging code with attribution. Its demo authentication would need replacing.

The original FileBrowser repo is archived, so I'd propose a pinned stable FileBrowser Quantum release as a native sidecar, proxied through NestJS and shown in the WebGUI Tools page. That would reuse the file manager rather than build another one. I'd check the bundled licences before distribution.

Before coding, could you clarify:

  • Is Quantum acceptable, including SSE rather than WebSockets for live updates?
  • Would browsing, file/folder operations, streamed transfers, archives, existing previews/sharing, permissions and Unraid path handling cover the $400 bounty? Which other listed features are essential?
  • How should reuse, credit and any bounty split with the earlier contributor work?
  • Does a trial licence qualify, and when do the Unraid account/licence and GitHub Sponsors setup need to be verified?
  • What deadline and revision limits would apply?

Scope

  • API
  • Plugin
  • Web UI
  • Build/Deploy Process
  • Documentation

Timeline & Impact

Timing to be agreed once the scope and Unraid test environment are confirmed. No implementation has started.

This adds a managed sidecar, proxy and Tools page. Tests would cover authentication and permissions, streamed transfers, restart/reboot behaviour, large directories, concurrency and the agreed XFS/BTRFS/ZFS checks on Unraid.
