Research direction

Start in examples/agent-frameworks/vercel-ai-sdk, where the mock search_web tool and the streamText loop live, and use the booking-assistant cookbook as the Streamable HTTP MCP reference. The issue asks for maintainer approval before any implementation, so the first step is to get a direction from maintainers. Done would be an opt-in server-side MCP connection that leaves the default mock tools unchanged, with tests for configuration, tool dispatch, and connection cleanup.

Description

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The Vercel AI SDK example's search_web tool returns mock results. Developers building research assistants need a small reference for connecting live web search to the same OpenUI chat flow.

Describe the solution you'd like
Would an opt-in Parallel Search MCP integration fit the existing examples/agent-frameworks/vercel-ai-sdk example? It provides free web search and page fetching without a Parallel account or API key; anonymous search uses Fast mode.

I'd add a documented server-side opt-in that connects to https://search.parallel.ai/mcp over Streamable HTTP and exposes its search and fetch tools to the existing streamText loop. The default mock tools and current model configuration would stay unchanged. The chat would still require its existing OpenUI Cloud key.

I'd include credential-free verification of configuration, tool dispatch, and connection cleanup, plus a live anonymous search/fetch check and validation through the chat's agent loop before proposing a PR.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Keep the existing mock tools, or build a separate research cookbook. Extending this example seems smaller and reuses its existing tool loop rather than duplicating the app.

Additional context
The booking-assistant cookbook already demonstrates Streamable HTTP MCP for live hotel searches. This proposal would demonstrate general web research in the Vercel AI SDK example. I'll wait for maintainer approval and direction before implementing, as requested in the contribution guide.

I work at Parallel.
