Description

Description

In Practice mode, the Choose a specific problem instead section allows users to expand the problem picker and select a problem manually.

The selection itself works correctly. However, after clicking a problem, the picker remains expanded and the page stays at the same position.

Because the Selected problem: status is located above the expanded picker, it may be outside the current viewport. There is therefore little immediate visual feedback confirming that the selected problem has actually changed.

This can make the user unsure whether the selection succeeded.

Expected behavior

After a user successfully chooses a new problem from Choose a specific problem instead:

  1. Collapse the specific-problem picker.
  2. Bring the Selected problem: status into view.
  3. Show the newly selected problem and its difficulty using the existing selected-problem display.

This should happen only when a new specific problem is selected successfully.

The existing saved-list, random-problem difficulty filter, and Strict Interview behavior should remain unchanged.

Related work

This proposal is complementary to the existing problem-picker work:

  • #392 / #455 changes the problem-card click behavior so that clicking an already selected card can release the manual selection.
  • #394 changes the layout of the expanded problem picker so that it can use the full lobby width.
  • #15 originally introduced the collapsible specific-problem picker.

This issue does not change selection policy, deselection behavior, or picker layout. It only improves the confirmation shown after a successful new problem selection.

If #455 lands first, this behavior should be applied only to the branch that selects a new card, not to the branch that deselects the currently selected card.

Acceptance criteria

  • Selecting a new problem from the specific-problem picker still updates the selected problem as before.
  • After a successful new selection, the expanded problem picker closes.
  • The Selected problem: status is brought into the viewport.
  • The selected title and difficulty are immediately visible.
  • Deselecting an already selected card, if #392/#455 is present, does not incorrectly trigger the selected-problem confirmation behavior.
  • Keyboard-based selection does not leave focus on an element hidden by the collapsed picker.
  • Random problem selection and saved-list selection keep their existing behavior.
  • Strict Interview behavior is unchanged.
  • Browser regression coverage verifies the collapse and selected-problem visibility behavior.
