Research direction

Read ADR 0001 and ADR 0019, then inspect the text selection, clipboard, and field editing entry points to understand FieldWorks parity and non-editable runs. The issue says to decide on this feature only after parity is done; that decision is the next step, before implementing drag and drop within or between fields.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Legacy FieldWorks has no in-text drag and drop: a mouse drag only extends the selection (FieldWorks Src/views/VwRootBox.cpp MouseMoveDrag). By ADR 0001 the field matches FieldWorks first, so this is a separate feature to decide on after parity.

Scope when picked up:

  • Drag a selection within a field and between fields.
  • Copy with Ctrl held.
  • Carry runs, writing systems and properties as the clipboard does.
  • Respect non-editable runs (ADR 0019).

Next: decide after FieldWorks parity is done.
