Research direction

Start by reading packages/ledger to understand the ledger layout and safe read-only behavior, then add skills/read-pbnotes-ledger/SKILL.md. Follow the example from the skills CLI for required YAML frontmatter and verify that npx skills add shovon/pbnotes discovers the skill. Done means the skill is discoverable, contains installation guidance in AGENTS.md, and provides guidance only with no scripts that modify a ledger.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

Agents that land in a pbnotes ledger (see #63) need to know how to read it. Rather than copying a skill into every ledger, ship it from this repo so users install it once and it updates with the code.

Proposal

Add skills under skills/<name>/SKILL.md at the repo root, e.g.:

skills/
  read-pbnotes-ledger/
SKILL.md # what a ledger is, its layout, how to read it safely

This is one of the paths the `skills` CLI (vercel-labs/skills) searches, so users can install with:

npx skills add shovon/pbnotes

and it works across Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc. Each SKILL.md needs YAML frontmatter with name (lowercase, hyphens) and description; without both the CLI finds nothing.

Keeping the skill next to `packages/ledger` means a format change and the skill update land in the same commit.

Follow-ups / open questions

  • The AGENTS.md signpost from #63 should name the install command above.
  • Optional: a .claude-plugin/marketplace.json pointing at the same skills/ folder would also make it installable as a Claude Code plugin (/plugin marketplace add shovon/pbnotes) with no separate repo. Only if wanted.
  • skills.sh listing appears to come from installs of public repos; nothing to submit, but confirm once published.
  • Skills must stay read-only guidance: no scripts that write into a ledger.
