Research direction

Start with the pkgsLib.elisp.package definition and compare its current use of the default pkgs.emacs with the Emacs variants listed in nixpkgs' applications/editors/emacs/default.nix. Identify how older Emacs sources should be represented for backward-compatibility testing. Done means the package can select multiple Emacs versions, including the relevant older sources.

Description

Right now, it always uses the default pkgs.emacs, but Nixpkgs provides a number of variations, notably macport.

Unfortunately, they’re all Emacs 30, but it shouldn’t be difficult to include older sources as needed in order to test backward compatibility.
