Research direction

Review the outdated cythonize_call_loop diff and the benchmark tests from issue #37, then compare their setup with the current _multicall(). The work is done when an updated Cythonized call loop runs under those benchmarks and its performance can be compared with the current implementation.

Description

enhancement performance

@RonnyPfannschmidt has had this idea for a long while and I just remembered I coded it up for a pycon a couple years ago.

See the very outdated diff here:
https://github.com/pytest-dev/pluggy/compare/master...goodboy:cythonize_call_loop

It would probably be neato to update that and get it running under the benchmark tests from #37 for comparison with our current _multicall().
