Research direction

Start by reading the Maven remote pull-through caching and content lookup entry points, then trace how artifacts, metadata, and checksums are fetched from upstream. Check how remote configuration is defined and covered by tests. Done means configured group prefixes are served locally when available and missing excluded content returns 404 without an upstream request, including for subgroups.

Description

Feature Triage-Needed

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Lookups for internal group IDs reach Maven Central unnecessarily, contributing to shared upstream rate limits.

Describe the solution you'd like
Configure excluded group prefixes on Maven remotes, e.g. com.breuninger. Serve local content normally, but return 404 instead of querying upstream when excluded content is missing.

Describe alternatives you've considered
Client-side filters depend on consistent configuration. Proxy filtering adds maintenance.

Additional context
Apply exclusions to artifacts, metadata, and checksums, including subgroups.
