Start from the reproduction script, which sets mssql_python.native_provider to mssql-odbc and connects with Authentication=ActiveDirectoryIntegrated. Search the provider code for the error text 'Authentication method ActiveDirectoryIntegrated is not yet supported' to find where that auth mode is rejected, then compare it with the working ActiveDirectoryInteractive path. Done when the same connection succeeds on mssql-odbc and the test suite still passes for the other auth modes.

Problem

The opt-in mssql-odbc provider cannot connect when the connection string uses Authentication=ActiveDirectoryIntegrated.

The same connection succeeds with the default msodbcsql18 provider. ActiveDirectoryInteractive and ActiveDirectoryDefault also succeed with mssql-odbc in the same environment.

  • Windows 11 x64, build 26300
  • Python 3.13.9
  • mssql-python==1.16.0
  • mssql-python-rs==0.3.0
  • mssql-python-odbc==18.6.2.2
  • Target: SQL database in Microsoft Fabric

Reproduction

Actual result

mssql_python.exceptions.NotSupportedError:
Driver Error: Optional feature not implemented;
DDBC Error: [Microsoft]Authentication method ActiveDirectoryIntegrated is not yet supported

Expected result

mssql-odbc supports ActiveDirectoryIntegrated, matching the default msodbcsql18 provider.

Controls

Using the same Python environment, account, server, and database:

  • msodbcsql18 with ActiveDirectoryIntegrated: succeeds
  • mssql-odbc with ActiveDirectoryIntegrated: fails with NotSupportedError
  • mssql-odbc with ActiveDirectoryInteractive: succeeds
  • mssql-odbc with ActiveDirectoryDefault: succeeds
