Research direction

Start with the 6 h offline default in mesh_monitoring/constants.py (line 6) and the portnum filter in services/base.py (lines 79-93), which decides when last_heard advances. Work out how a NodeInfo-only 2.8 node would be marked offline under the current logic. Done means a test with a NodeInfo-only node no longer raises a false offline alert, and RECENCY.md is updated. This depends on pskillen/meshflow-api#461 (LB-2), so check that issue first.

Description

enhancement meshtastic-2.8

Part of pskillen/meshflow-api#437 (Meshtastic 2.8.x support). Code: TP-2 · Priority: Should · Size: M

Summary

2.8 nodes may only send NodeInfo (about every 3 h, scaled) against our 6 h offline default (mesh_monitoring/constants.py:6). last_heard only advances for accepted portnums (services/base.py:79-93).

  • Any packet from a node counts as heard.
  • Consider a learned per-node cadence.

Acceptance criteria

  • No false offline alerts for a NodeInfo-only 2.8 node in tests
  • Docs in RECENCY.md

Depends on: pskillen/meshflow-api#461 (LB-2)
