Research direction

Read the Binary Protocol specification linked in the issue and compare it with pymemcache’s existing text protocol support. Identify the client entry points and tests that would need to cover binary requests, responses, and multi-set behavior; done means binary mode works and set_multi uses it correctly. The issue does not name specific files or tests.

Description

enhancement

https://github.com/memcached/memcached/wiki/BinaryProtocolRevamped

The binary protocol is much faster than the text protocol:

pylibmc already supports this with binary=True

Outside of performance this also allows set_multi to be a real performant call instead of a ton of individual calls.
