Research direction

Start by reviewing the issue body and its seven comments for the listed PhET-iO instrumentation pitfalls, required changes, and useful pointers. The issue does not name files, tests, or a concrete completion condition, so the scope and definition of done still need to be established.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

design:phet-io priority:5-deferred

Function Builder was not instrumented for PhET-iO when initially developed, and (due to deadlines) little thought was given to instrumentation.

In this issue, I'll describe potential pitfalls with instrumentation, things that will need to be added/changed, pointers to things that might be useful, etc. Hopefully this will benefit whoever does the instrumentation.
