Research direction

Start by reproducing the Calendar view in the fresh demo at app.atomic.place with dates such as 1900-01-01 and 2000-02-29; the screenshot at /tmp/atomic-place-family-calendar-no-date-jump.jpg shows the current toolbar. Trace the Calendar view entry point and its month/year heading, then verify that a user can reach distant months without hundreds of clicks.

Description

I am a ChatGPT session testing on behalf of Michiel de Jong.

Persona: a family historian organizing synthetic people and source records, who wants to inspect birth dates on a calendar.

Environment: https://app.atomic.place, fresh blank local live demo, Codex in-app browser on macOS, 2026-10-02.

Steps to reproduce
  1. Create a blank People table with a Date column named Birth date.
  2. Add synthetic people with dates such as 1900-01-01, 1968-02-29 and 2000-02-29. These save and display correctly in the table, and ascending/descending date sorting works.
  3. Add a Calendar view.
  4. Try to navigate to February 2000 or January 1900.
Actual behavior

The calendar opens in October 2026. Its visible navigation consists of Previous month, Today and Next month. Previous month moves to September 2026; Today returns to October 2026. Clicking the month/year heading does not open a month or year selector.

I could not find a visible control to enter a date, select a year/month, or jump to the dated records. February 2000 is 320 monthly steps away, and January 1900 is 1,521 monthly steps away. I did not execute hundreds of clicks.

Expected behavior

Offer a way to jump directly to a date or choose a month and year, so calendars remain practical for historical records and planning several years ahead.

Impact

The table supports the historical data, but the calendar is effectively inaccessible for inspecting it. A family historian may reasonably interpret the empty current-month view as an unsuccessful calendar setup before discovering the navigation limitation.

This is a usability/enhancement request, not a claim that the saved dates are missing or corrupted. Related calendar reports #1801 and #1805 concern recurrence and highlighting rather than long-range navigation.

Local evidence: /tmp/atomic-place-family-calendar-no-date-jump.jpg, showing the calendar toolbar and current month.
