Research direction

Start by reviewing the app’s existing navigation and remote-control behavior; the issue does not name specific files or tests. Decide how the rail expands, what it contains, how focus and Back behave, and how viewers reach the guide and channel list. Done means those navigation choices are defined for Fire TV and Android TV.

Question

How should Settee's left-hand navigation work with a remote: a collapsed rail that expands on focus or always expanded, how focus enters and leaves it, and where Back goes.

Settled by #87

  • What's in it: Home, Live TV, Movies, Shows, Recordings, in that order. There's no Favourites item for now.
  • Focus: she found navigating confusing and the highlight sometimes unclear, so it must always be obvious where she is.
  • Press limits: no design may add a press to a Daily route. Home to the Live tab is about 3 presses today, and that's an Occasional route.
  • The guide and channel list: she rarely watches live TV, so reaching them is a lesser requirement here. The channel list's own changes are in #130.
