Research direction

Start with the README example and compare the require("tslib") behavior between versions 1.13.x and 1.14.0, focusing on the package entry point and default export. Confirm the reported older-library usage and define done as preserving that compatibility or updating the README and compatibility expectations to match the intended behavior.

Description

This used to work before version 1.14.0 and is still listed in the README:

var tslib_1 = require("tslib");
exports.x = {};
exports.y = tslib_1.__assign({}, exports.x);

I consider this a breaking change since many older libraries are built using tslib < 1.14.0 but upgrading a local app to tslib >= 1.14.0 breaks libraries that rely on the default export.
