Research direction
Start by reading AGENTS.md for privacy rules, then compare the existing labels() API referenced in #31 with waproto’s CustomList message at the pinned revision. Description
Requested by a user who relies on WhatsApp Business for work.
Use case
A school keeps one group per class, and many classes run through the day. The user groups chats and groups into lists by day and period, for example "Saturday, 8h" for the five classes that meet on Saturday morning. Without lists, finding the right group among many means scrolling or searching by name. They called lists indispensable.
What ZapTide does today
Nothing. Lists made on the phone are not shown, and the chat list can only be filtered by unread, pinned, chat kind and archived.
What whatsapp-rust provides
Checked against the pinned revision ae3cefd: waproto defines a CustomList message, but the library has no high-level API for lists, unlike labels() (see #31). Supporting lists means reading and writing that app state ourselves, or contributing the API upstream first.
Proposed scope
- Show the lists created on the phone and filter the chat list by list.
- Create, rename, reorder and delete lists, and add or remove chats and groups.
- Apply list changes made on other devices.
Lists and Business labels are different WhatsApp features. #31 covers labels and this issue covers lists. They may share list and filter UI.
Notes
The privacy rules in AGENTS.md apply: no message content in logs or tests. New strings need a pt_BR translation.
