Research direction

Start by locating the split filter implementation and the handling of the field option. Check how existing configuration values are interpolated, then verify that a field value such as "%{varname}" is expanded as expected and add or run the relevant filter test if one exists.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.

Description

The split filter currently doesn't call sprintf for the contents of the field option, so a configuration like

split {
  field => "%{varname}"
}

won't work as most people would expect. I can't see a good reason for not supporting this.
