Research direction

Look for the feature toggle for Flashcards in the settings code. Then find where the shortcuts 'gf' and 'tc' are defined and where the '#card' and '#cards' tags are processed. The fix is to conditionally disable those handlers based on the feature flag. Check if there are existing tests for the Flashcards feature to understand the expected behavior.

What Happened?

Even after disabling Flashcards under Settings → Features → Flashcards, the Flashcards shortcuts gf and tc still work.

The #card and #cards tags also continue to work as usual.

Reproduce the Bug
  1. Go to Settings → Features.
  2. Disable the Flashcards feature.
  3. Try using the Flashcards shortcuts gf or tc.
  4. Use #card or #cards.
Expected Behavior

If disabling the Flashcards feature is intended to disable the Flashcards functionality, I would expect the related shortcuts and Flashcard functionality to be disabled as well.

Additional Context

At the moment, the only difference I can observe when disabling the Flashcards feature is that the Flashcards entry can no longer be shown in the Navigation tab.

The shortcuts gf and tc still work, and #card and #cards also continue to work without any changes.

If the intention of this setting is simply to hide the Flashcards UI from users, I’m wondering whether a separate toggle in Settings is actually necessary. Even without a dedicated Flashcards toggle, users can already remove the Flashcards entry from Navigation and remove the related shortcuts themselves.

If the purpose of this toggle is also to disable the Flashcards functionality or the processes running behind the scenes, then it seems that those parts are not being disabled.
